Abstract

The article examines the linguistic and communicative features of Ukrainian youth digital discourse in social networks in the context of the full-scale Russian-Ukrainian war. The relevance of the study is determined by the increasing role of digital platforms in the everyday communication of young people and by significant changes in language behavior under the influence of digitalization and socio-political transformations. The study focuses on the functioning of Ukrainian youth digital discourse as a multidimensional communicative phenomenon that combines verbal, visual, audio, and other multimodal components. The research analyzes the lexical, stylistic, pragmatic, and communicative characteristics of digital communication. Particular attention is paid to the use of anglicisms, slang, abbreviations, neologisms, hybrid Ukrainian-English constructions, memes, humor, imperative forms, and emotionally expressive vocabulary. The study also considers the role of digital communication in expressing national and group identity, maintaining social interaction, providing emotional support, and encouraging civic and volunteer engagement. The empirical basis of the research consists of publicly available posts and video materials from Instagram, TikTok, and Telegram, examples of meme communication, volunteer and creative content, as well as the results of a survey conducted among Ukrainian youth in May 2026. Descriptive analysis, content analysis, discourse analysis, linguistic and pragmatic analysis, and quantitative analysis of survey results were applied. The findings demonstrate that Ukrainian youth digital discourse is highly dynamic and multifunctional. Social networks serve not only as channels for information exchange but also as spaces for self-expression, solidarity, identity construction, emotional interaction, volunteer coordination, and civic mobilization. The war has intensified the identification function of the Ukrainian language and contributed to changes in the thematic and communicative patterns of youth digital interaction.
