Abstract

The periodicals of Bukovina are a rich source for the study of the Ukrainian language at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. A vivid example of this is the Chernivtsi periodical "Ruska Rada." Scientific research has conducted a comparative analysis of quantifiers in the Ukrainian and Bulgarian languages. In the Ukrainian language, quantifiers of precisely defined and approximate quantities have been studied based on the material of publications of the newspaper "Ruska Rada" for 1901-1903. Precisely defined quantities are expressed by proper-quantitative, collective, fractional numerals, and ordinal adjectives. The core of precisely the amount defined on the pages of the newspaper "Ruska Rada" consists of proper-quantitative and fractional numerals, as well as ordinal adjectives; the periphery is collective nouns. Most often, combinations of two, mostly close in numerical order, numerals are used as approximate quantities, which give a hint of assumption and selectivity. A fairly common means of realizing approximate quantities is the combination of a numeral with prepositions- particles, in which the form of the numeral determines the extreme upper or lower limit of the exact quantity, and particles of prepositional origin indicate approaching the upper limit, preceding it, which include to, under, near, around, less (as, than) no more (as, than), no higher (as, than) and the like, or exceeding the lower limit, including over, for, more (as, than), no less (as, than), and others. Very rarely, the function of approximate quantity is performed by some types of inversion conjunctions, in particular those in which nouns or pronouns act as prepositions to numerals. In the Bulgarian language, proper-quantitative numerals predominate.
